Messaging app Telegram announces the official auction of its usernames on its new marketplace built on the Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain. The auction for the best usernames is live on Fragment, and will last for a week.
Users can now buy short recognizable usernames for personal accounts, public groups and channels. Existing Telegram users can’t auction off their usernames, they may get a chance to convert them into collectibles in the future.
Telegram has begun the auctions of four- and five-letter handles with price to be paid in Toncoin, the native token of the TON blockchain.
The ownership of these collectible usernames is secured in the immutable ledger of TON. Owners can add multiple username aliases to their personal account, group or channel.
Each collectible name can be accessed with its @username on Telegram, or outside Telegram using links such as username.t.me and t.me/username.
