On-chain analyst and crypto scam investigator ZachXBT exposes Monkey Drainer for stealing 7 CryptoPunks and 20 Otherside NFTs worth about 520 ETH, around $880k.
Blockchain analyst firm Peckshield later confirmed that the attacker transferred 120 ETH to Monkey Drainer’s address and 200 ETH into the crypto mixer Tornado cash to wash out the stolen assets.
This is not the first offense of the infamous hacker as just a week ago they stole 700 ETH worth of assets, approximately $1M, by scamming users’ via phishing websites.
And even before that, the crypto sleuth reported Monkey Drainer has stolen over $3.5 million worth of crypto and NFTs, so now the total amount they have scammed out is approximately $4.3 million.
It’s still unknown if Monkey Drainer is a single entity or a group of people but ZachXBT thinks that the attacker “is likely one person.”
ZachXBT believes that other scammers are using Monkey Drainer’s playbook to conduct even more scams, and the attacker started operating in August.
“Monkey sells his drainer for 30% cut of an attack. So other scammers are coming to him with these accounts,” he tweeted.
ZachXBT even noted that Monkey Drainer can only be stopped if they don’t continuously update the tool to stay competitive, otherwise new methods will gain market share.
Monkey Drainer is also responsible for the hack of Gabriel Leydon’s Twitter Account where a user got their MAYC NFT stolen by clicking on fraudulent links that were tweeted via the account.
