Jane Manchun Wong, a security researcher, revealed that Twitter will use the Signal Protocol for encrypted direct messages (DMs). She shared the Signal Protocol code references from Twitter’s iOS and Android apps.

Musk praised Signal and stated that he had spoken with its creator, Moxie Marlinspike, who is now “potentially willing to help out” with encrypting Twitter direct messages.
