Popular NFT and cryptocurrency app Coinbase Wallet informed via a tweet thread that Apple has blocked the NFT-sending feature from iOS due to an in-app purchase dispute. Coinbase also stated that Apple has blocked their last app release until the NFT-sending feature is disabled.
Coinbase mentioned the reason that Apple wants the gas fee required to send NFTs to be paid via its In-App purchase system so it can collect 30% of the gas fee. Moreover, Coinbase pointed out that Apple’s request is impossible as its proprietary In-App purchase system does not support crypto, so Coinbase couldn’t comply even if it tried.
Coinbase went on to say that this is similar to Apple trying to grab a cut of fees for every email sent over open internet protocols. Apple’s move has put iOS users in trouble as now they have to go through a lengthy process to transfer NFTs.
In other words, “Apple has introduced new policies to protect their profit at the expense of consumer investment in NFTs and developer innovation across the crypto ecosystem,” Coinbase concluded.

The move will definitely affect iOS users that are holding their NFTs in their iPhone wallets. Nevertheless, it’s difficult to say whether the decision will be revoked or continue to distress the affected community.
