Dan Finlay, co-founder of MetaMask is all in favor of crypto by ditching Apple’s App Store. He shows interest in crypto and sidelines Apple by calling their 30% in-app purchase tax “an abuse of monopoly.”
Dan responded to the news that Apple had previously banned Coinbase’s iOS wallet software until it disabled NFT transfer features, saying, “I will stand here in total solidarity.”
Coinbase’s wallet on Thursday announced that its users will no longer be able to trade or transfer NFTs through its iOS app, arguing that even if it wants to fall in with the “Apple Tax,” it won’t be able to do, as Apple is not integrated with blockchain.
Dan Finlay tweeted “I assume [MetaMask] and every other wallet is next,”
Moreover, he said, “I’m ready to dump the Apple ecosystem. The 30% tax is an abuse of monopoly.”
It’s not clear what this will mean for the current use of Metamask iOS. As of now, Metamask remains on the app store but the team will closely monitor the situation in the coming weeks and months to ensure users continue to have unfettered access to their crypto assets.
Dan Finlay, however, is not the only crypto supporter to express disdain for Apple’s policies. Tim Sweeney and Ryan Wyatt have both expressed outrage at the 30% tax on in-app purchases.
