A brand new Twitter Coin may be finally on the way. Rumors are circulating that Twitter is considering rolling out its own native token “Twitter Coin” to be used for tipping and making payments on the platform.
Nima Owji, who manages a Twitter account dedicated to app-related information leaks shared a screenshot of what appeared to be a prototype Twitter interface along with a vector picture of a coin displaying the Twitter logo and the “Coins” option for tipping.
Another on-chain sleuth Jane Manchun Wong shared similar information as Owji about Twitter Coin. Won shared a code extracted from a recent version of the Twitter Web App but Wong has since then disappeared from all social media platforms.
Before disappearing Wong did state, “It isn’t rolled out yet; there is little information out there as to what this is exactly.”
Given Twitter CEO Elon Musk’s devotion to the meme coin, some of the community members are still holding out hope that Twitter Coin is really a fictitious term for Dogecoin.
Elon Musk did confirm his interest in cryptocurrency payments to a Twitter Spaces audience, two days back. “It is kind of a no-brainer for Twitter to have payments, both fiat and crypto,” Musk stated.
The crypto community has huge expectations about what Elon Musk will bring to the table and how the top social media platform will trigger the widespread adoption of crypto globally.
