Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is not happy with Twitter CEO Elon Musk’s content moderation decisions on the platform, saying his rash bans or censorships are showcasing a “path to authoritarianism.”
David Sacks, the general partner of Craft Ventures, tweeted listing Elon’s decisions on the platform, asking, “What’s the problem?” with these moderations, to which Buterin replied, “The problem is the way in which the policies were introduced, seeming to retrofit around Elon’s views on very specific situations.”
When a Twitter user countered, saying there were catalysts that justified Elon Musk’s new policies and the Twitter CEO is only responding to system inputs, and Musk acted quickly and decisively, Buterin served a fatal blow to Musk’s moves.
Buterin replied, “Acting “quickly and decisively in response to catalysts” when the action in question is banning things is the path to authoritarianism.”

Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, he has been going rampant with the new changes on the platform, receiving mixed reviews from users.
Musk temporarily suspended the accounts of a number of well-known journalists earlier this month after they covered a Twitter account that used openly available data to monitor Musk’s private jet.
While the FIFA World Cup Final event was happening, the Twitter Support account tweeted that it would delete accounts “created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms and content that contains links or usernames.”
Users who break the policy more than once risk having their accounts locked or asked to erase the offending tweets, and those who do so again risk having their accounts permanently suspended, Twitter noted.
The new policy invited heavy criticisms, with Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey opposing it. The tweet about the new policy is now found deleted.
Vitalik Buterin responded to the policy by tweeting, “Really not kind to Messi to use his performance in the World Cup taking up everyone’s attention as cover to release this kind of thing.”
Buterin also blasted Musk for banning links to Mastodon, a rival social networking platform, calling the action “This is really bad imo.” However, Mastodon’s official Twitter account was also suspended for posting links to its version of the “ElonJet” account.
@ElonJets, which tracks Elon’s jet, and @CelebJets, which tracks celebrity-owned private jets, retrieve publicly accessible data and repost it, which is permitted in the United States.
Elon Musk posted today a poll asking Twitter users to determine whether he should remain CEO of Twitter declaring that he would follow the poll’s results.
MrBeast, a prominent YouTuber, expressed his opinion, saying that Musk needs to resign if he wants to keep making judgments like the current ban on cross-promoting other social media sites.
The Twitter poll raked in 14,881,111 votes with 57.2% of the voters wanting Musk to step down. At the time of writing, only 3 hours are left for the poll to end, and it will be worth watching if Musk will indeed step down if the majority wants to kick him out.
