The Dogecoin Foundation announces the launch of a core development fund which will be managed by existing core developers and Dogecoin Foundation board director signatories.
According to the announcement, to assist the progress of the Dogecoin platform, the foundation is contributing 5 million Dogecoin, or about $360,000, to the new development fund.
A segregated multi-signature wallet has been created to transparently manage the funds and distribute incentives to Dogecoin Core developers for their contributions.
The wallet will be operated by the Dogecoin Core developers chromatic, Marshall Hayner, Michi Lumin, Patrick Lodder, and Ross Nicoll, and is secured by three-out-of-five signature custodians. Marshall Hayner is a new addition to the Dogecoin Foundation board of directors.
The funds will be dispersed among all contributors listed in the release notes since the last major or minor release, exclusively, with each major or minor release of Dogecoin Core.
To be considered a major or minor release, a release must have at least 25 non-whitespace/comment-only pull requests.
To avoid duplication of effort, the height of the payout for each individual contributor will be calculated based on the method utilized for the Dogecoin Core tip jar. Also, custodians are not granted any rights to the money kept in the wallet.
To the best of the custodians’ abilities, all disbursements must be made known to the public and widely publicized via social media platforms.
A custodian cannot designate their own successor; they can only solicit succession for their own position. The surviving custodians shall unanimously agree on the appointment of the successor and shall publicly suggest a replacement.
The custodian is released from all obligations after this procedure is fully finished and a replacement is chosen. The remaining custodians must start the succession process if a custodian is inaccessible without notice for three months or longer.
Before the succession procedure is finished completely, the impacted custodian may return to active duty.
