The co-founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates gave his insights on the future of Web3, Metaverse, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in his annual Ask Me Anything session on Reddit.
In a Reddit AMA session, one user asked if there was any “mammoth technology shift” currently at a similar stage to the internet in 2000.
Gates replied: “AI is the big one. I don’t think Web3 was that big, or that metaverse stuff alone was revolutionary, but AI is quite revolutionary.”
He did not elaborate further when asked by another user to provide more information on why he believes web3 technology is not revolutionary.
He also expressed excitement about generative AI, or AI that can create content – and said: “I’m quite impressed with the improvement rate of this AI. I think they will have a huge impact.”
When questioned about his thoughts on the ChatGPT platform, which has recently gained attention for its ability to generate written content that mimics human language, Gates responded, “It gives us a glimpse into the future. I am impressed with this method and the pace of innovation.”
According to a Semafor report, Microsoft plans to invest $10 billion in OpenAI, the startup behind the popular artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT.
Bill Gates has made it clear that he does not support the current trend of Web3 or NFTs. In the past, Gates bashed crypto and NFTs by referring “based on the greater-fool theory” at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
