Before the eagerly awaited Shanghai upgrade slated to occur in March, Ethereum hits over 500,000 validators on the Beacon chain.
BeaconScan data show that as of January 17th, 2023, Ethereum has roughly 502,218 registered validators.
A validator in a proof of stake network periodically proposes new blocks while assisting in the validation of transactions and incoming blocks. Users must commit at least 32 ETH as an initial investment to become validators.
The Ethereum Beacon Chain has currently locked all the Staked Ether (stETH). validators can withdraw their staked money after the Shanghai upgrade, including any applicable staking incentives for validating network transactions.

A few days back it was announced that the public testnet for the Ethereum Shanghai upgrade has been alluded to happen by the February end. At the meeting, core developers decided against adding Ethereum Virtual Machine Object Format (EOF).
Staking platforms like Lido and RocketPool offer liquid staking alternatives that enable users to get stETH or rETH in exchange for their staked assets.
ConsenSys revealed last week that MetaMask has joined forces with Lido and Rocketpool so that users could stake with either service and receive stETH and rETH right inside the wallet app.
