The highest level of the men’s English football league system, the Premier League, partners with French NFT fantasy sports startup Sorare in a multi-year deal.
According to the exclusive multi-year arrangement, players of the game will be allowed to buy and use Premier League-licensed NFTs with league-specific competitions set to be held.
Sorare allows users to trade digital player NFT cards and manage fantasy soccer teams of five in tournaments. All 20 clubs in the Premier League are now available to Sorare users thanks to the new partnership announced today.
The Premier League was first said to be in talks with Sorare over a £30m-a-year deal in October 2022. Because the Premier League already had an NFT licensing agreement with another firm, the process got lengthy, according to Sorare CEO Nicolas Julia.
Regarding the specifics of the latest deal’s length and price, Julia opted not to disclose them. Sorare is already in partnership with other major leagues such as the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Major League Baseball (MBA).
Last month, Lionel Messi was named the brand ambassador of Sorare. Messi has taken an equity stake in Sorare without specifying the size of his stake or any other terms
