Grammy-nominated DJ Steve Aoki and Hollywood star Seth Green’s Stoopid Buddy Stoodios partners with web3 platform Shibuya to unveil “Dominion X: Level 2”: the first-ever stop-motion short co-directed by an NFT community.
Dominion X: Level 2 is Shibuya’s first external IP to launch since the platform’s inception in March 2022. This stop-motion project is said to be a “unique exercise” in community co-creation, with ambitions of bringing storytelling to another level in Web3.
“Dominion X” was first released as a series of animated scenes offered as NFTs through Nifty Gateway in August 2021, selling out in seconds. “Dominion X: Level 1” stop-motion short was then created, showcasing Steve Aoki’s Character X in collaboration with Stoopid Buddy Stoodios.
Steve Aoki issued Replicant X, the next installment in the Character X saga in September 2022. This collection of 7,777 NFTs features eye-catching visual characteristics hand-selected by Steve Aoki and created by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios.
“I am excited to be working with Stoopid Buddy Stoodios and Seth Green as we guide Character X through this next evolution into Replicant X, bringing the community along for the ride,” Steve Aoki stated.
Replicant X NFT gives people access to help write Dominion X as it enters production. Holders of the Shibuya’s White Rabbit Key NFT and Replicant X NFT are invited to participate in the development of the DominionX: Level 2 stop-motion shorts.
Holders of the ReplicantX and White Rabbit Keys can stake their NFTs in Shibuya to take part in the interactive production process with each NFT counting as one vote.
The voting period will start on February 8 and last for six weeks. The community is invited to vote on alternative endings for a new scene that Stoopid Buddy Stoodios releases every week.
After voting is over, Stoopid Buddy will shoot the following scene based on feedback from the community. Community member NFTs will be staked beginning on February 6 and will remain so for the entire six-week production period.
Depending on the level of engagement during the production process, voters will receive a memorial NFT of various rarities as a thank-you gift for participating, at the end of the six-week period.
Emily Yang aka Pplpleasr, the CEO of Shibuya, stated “we’re excited to see the first stop-motion film co-directed by a community of NFT holders come to life. Our platform provides tools to close the gap between creators and communities and ReplicantX is an exciting example of interactive content enabled by Web3 technology.”
Seth Green added, “As creators, it’s thrilling to have these new tools to bring fans right into our writers room so they can participate in the creative process with us. The approach with Replicant X is designed to maximize fan input into the story, and more importantly, create comedic sequences that we would never have dreamed up on our own.”
