Swiss luxury watchmaker Hublot collaborates with renowned Japanese artist Takashi Murakami to launch thirteen NFTs and thirteen unique timepieces featuring “the iconic smiling flower that is central to the Japanese artist’s work.”
According to the announcement, Hublot and Takashi Murakami presented their fourth collaborative artistic venture on February 2nd at a private event at the Glass House in New York.
The thirteen unique NFTs are influenced by 1970s Japanese video games and television and the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black watch. The limited edition of 13 Classic Fusion watches that will be unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2023 in Geneva are connected to these NFTs.
Twelve of these timepieces will be sold solely online for CHF 50,000, but only to owners of at least one of the 324 All Black or Sapphire Rainbow NFTs released in April 2022 as part of the third Hublot and Takashi Murakami collaboration.
Each purchaser who is fortunate enough to buy one of the twelve timepieces will also receive an exclusive NFT.
Before they could be traded on OpenSea, these 324 NFTs will be first offered to owners of one of the two Hublot x Takashi Murakami watches: Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black & Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Sapphire Rainbow.
Any collector interested in purchasing one of the 12 new watches may do so by purchasing one of the 324 NFTs that are now listed on OpenSea during the time between the project’s debut in New York in February and the beginning of the online sales in early April 2023.
The Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow, the collection’s thirteenth watch, was unveiled in New York. This watch, which drew inspiration from the two previously released pieces, reinvents Takashi Murakami’s signature image: the smiling flower.
In the next phase, collectors will have an opportunity to exchange the twelve NFTs on OpenSea for a period of one year. At the conclusion of this time period in April 2024, the collector who has amassed all 12 NFTs will be the only one qualified to purchase the thirteenth and most coveted watch: the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow.
If no one has been able to collect all twelve NFTs, Hublot will auction the watch to raise money for charity. This launch, which marks the third time Hublot and the Japanese artist have collaborated on a timepiece, is evidence of the partnership’s great collectability.
This is not Takashi Murakami’s only collaborator. Last May, Takashi Murakami and RTFKT collaborated for CloneX Chains NFTs. CloneX chains also have an RTFKT logo in an animated Murakami signature art style.
