Global online video platform Youtube appoints strong web3 advocate Neal Mohan as its new CEO, in the wake of Susan Wojcicki’s exit last week.
Before taking over as CEO, Mohan was YouTube’s chief product officer, where he supervised the removal of the video dislike button as well as the launch of YouTube Music and YouTube Shorts.
In a farewell post, Wojcicki noted “He has a wonderful sense for our product, our business, our creator and user communities, and our employees. Neal will be a terrific leader for YouTube.”
Last February, Neal Mohan stated that he sees the incredible potential in the NFT space to help creators have a better connection with their fans. He stated creators can tokenize their videos, photos, art, and experiences as an NFT to interact with their fans.
Mohan noted “We believe new technologies like blockchain and NFTs can allow creators to build deeper relationships with their fans. Together, they’ll be able to collaborate on new projects and make money in ways not previously possible.”
Mohan mentioned the metaverse adding “Finally, we couldn’t have a piece about innovation without touching on the Metaverse! We’re thinking big about how to make viewing more immersive. The first area in which you can expect to see an impact is gaming, where we’ll work to bring more interactions to games and make them feel more alive.”
