The notorious firm for prominent NFT collections like BAYC and BAKC, Yuga Labs revealed a rebranding of its BAKC logo after its original right holder “Easy Drawing Guides” raised the issue over the use of a logo without a “license”.
The issue came into the limelight after a Twitter user named “Colombo” highlighted a problem. The user found significant similarities between the Bored Ape Kennel Club logo and a ‘Wolf Skull’ drawing from Easy Drawing Guides.
According to the user, the drawing tutorial came out in April 2021, which was two months earlier than Yuga Labs revealed the collection, and filed for a trademark application for its logo in November.
The tweet captured the attention of both Easy Drawing and Yuga Labs. Easy Drawing Guides claimed that it holds complete intellectual property rights for its original drawing, protected by its terms and conditions.
After seeing heat on Twitter, Yuga Labs’ co-founder Greg Solano felt shocked about the news. He also disclosed that the firm will rebrand the logo soon and asked marketplaces to do the same.
According to Solano, Yuga Labs had hired freelancers to design a logo for the BAKC collection. After the matter came to light, the firm again reached out to them to investigate roots.
Yuga Labs is a reputed firm in the digital art space. It can not afford a spot on its clean slate for a logo prepared from drawing tutorials for kids and beginners.
