The parent company of Moonbirds NFT collection, PROOF Collective, cancels the much-awaited PROOF of Conference event that was scheduled for May, citing “considerably less interest than anticipated.”
PROOF co-founder Kevin Rose and his team stated “After several weeks of sales data, speaking with potential sponsors, and talking to community members, it’s clear that there is considerably less interest than anticipated for an event like this right now.”
They noted that they carefully considered, moving the conference to a smaller venue or a different city, scaling back the event’s scope and ticket prices, and even turning it into a virtual-only event.
Ultimately, PROOF decided that canceling the PROOF of Conference this year was the best course of action.
Refunds for ticket purchases would be made “within the next few hours,” but users may retain their NFT receipt for the event.
Additionally, PROOF guarantees that hotels booked with its half-priced discounts will be completely refundable and that cancellations of flights that result in cancellation costs may be filed with the firm for consideration of a refund.
Kevin Rose added that instead of using their time to put on the event, they’re using it to focus back on the PROOF and Moonbirds ecosystem to deliver products, art, and connection to users.
On March 2, 2023, PROOF will release a more “holistic” update on all the active Moonbirds initiatives with a PROOF Collective event to follow soon after, according to Rose.
Rose concluded by saying “this is not a permanent cancelation of our events. Expect to see smaller focused events this year until market interest warrants a larger conference.”
The sudden cancellation obviously angered most members of the Moonbirds NFT community. Some users are even threatening to sell their NFTs because they are dissatisfied.
Only a small percentage of them actually used Proof’s links to book flight and hotel tickets, which may have factored into the cancellation, but PROOF allegedly overlooked the possibility that others may have made separate reservations.
Nonetheless, last month was eventful for PROOF as the PROOF Collective’s Grails Season III mint event went live. For Grails Season III, PROOF assembled 20 artists to create a curated set of limited-edition artworks.
