The five-time Grammy Award-winning rapper, Drake, lost $400,000 in bitcoin, about 17 BTC, after betting that Jake Paul would defeat British professional boxer Tommy Fury in the boxing matchup held in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul becomes the latest victim of the infamous ‘Drake Curse,’ as the rapper has a history of supporting an individual or team for them to lose eventually.
Before this game, Paul had won six consecutive games. World heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s half-brother Tommy Fury defeated Paul in the eight-round fight by split decision despite being knocked out in the final bout.
Paul’s biggest match to date took place as he had only faced MMA fighters, YouTubers, and ex-NBA players in the ring before his fight with Tommy Fury. Drake placed the bet on the crypto gambling platform Stake.
Paul made light of Drake’s bet during the press conference that followed the fight saying “F***! This is Drake’s fault! Drake, bro, why did you do this to me? No, it’s my fault. $400,000 is nothing to him – he has won a lot more money betting on me before. He’s probably about even now. Sorry, Drake, I’ll get that win in the rematch.”
Drake is known for placing various crypto bets. Last May, Drake lost more than $200,000 worth of bitcoin on a Spanish Grand Prix bet. The rapper previously bet $1.26 million worth of bitcoin on the Super Bowl match between the LA Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals.
