After two sequential coordinated restart attempts, the Solana network overcame the outage and went back live on Feb 26. However, the Solana network team is still investigating the root cause behind such outages.
On Feb 25, the Solana Mainnet Beta network suffered significant performance degradation, eventually leading the validator community to opt for a restart of the network
For safe network recovery in the situation of data unavailability, validator nodes were automatically switched to vote-only mode. Solana was not processing any user transactions for an uncertain period of time.
After the collective decision by the validator community to downgrade the network to the previous version v1.13.6, two restart attempts were performed. The first attempt was abandoned to buy some time for precise data analysis and ensure the safety of transactions.
Following the assurance through data analysis that no transaction got affected, the community collectively restarted the network and switched to the previous version from v1.14.

Outages have been a major problem and inconvenience for network operators. Back in 2021 and 2022, the network had seen outages over a certain period of time that hinder the network performance. Skeptically, some of the outages resulted due to abrupt bot activity on the network.
