After last year’s transition ‘The Merge’, the Ethereum network is getting closer to another major upgrade ‘Shanghai’ as the Shapella upgrade was successfully performed on the Sepolia testnet on Feb 28.
The Shapella upgrade stimulates the Shanghai hard fork and the name is made by combining two names, Shanghai and Capella.
Shanghai represents the fork on the execution layer client side, while Capella stands for an upgrade on the consensus layer client side. The resulting fork after such stimulation will allow validators to withdraw their staked Ether (stETH) from the Beacon Chain to the execution layer.

The rehearsal was done on the Sepolia private testnet. The next step in this development will be an upgrade on Goerli public testnet, which will enable developers to write a smart contract and open withdrawal for staked tokens. The Goerli testnet is slated to launch in March.
Validators staked 32 ETH in the pool to participate in the validation process on the Ethereum network. After the latest development on the testnet, validators will be now able to withdraw their rewards as well as their staked tokens if they want to discontinue the validation process.
