The first G20 FMCBG, Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting began on Friday under India’s leadership. The summit will primarily focus on Governing policies for crypto assets and crypto trading. The discussion will also focus on international financial architecture, sustainable finance, infrastructure, the financial sector, and financial inclusion.
Indian Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman and Argentine Economy Minister Sergio Massa met before the first G20 FMCBG meeting in Bengaluru. The Ministers discussed priorities for the G20 Indian Presidency, as well as Argentinian assistance to India during its G20 Presidency. A seminar will be held to generate consensus on the regulation of digital assets.
The ministers mentioned that the FSB and international standard setters are continuing to work to ensure that the crypto-assets ecosystem, including so-called stablecoins, is closely monitored and subject to rigorous regulation, supervision, and oversight to mitigate potential risks to financial stability.
FSB’s analytical report on decentralized finance (DeFi) was welcomed and anticipated receiving the FSB’s high-level recommendations for the supervision and regulation of so-called stablecoins and crypto assets by our third meeting in 2023.
Given the cross-border nature of crypto transactions and the potential hazards they represent to the global financial system, India has been arguing for a global policy. Food and energy insecurity will also be heavily discussed by G-20 finance and central bank governors.
Among the other essential things on the agenda are reforms of multilateral development banks, international taxes, and increasing the availability of money to address climate threats.On Saturday, the summit will also host a special global sovereign debt forum to address the debt problems faced by low-income countries.
