CCP Games has raised $40 million in funding led by Andreessen Horowitz for an exciting new AAA game utilizing blockchain technology. With the use of blockchain technology, it will enhance the company’s objective.
CCP Games, the makers of the sci-fi spacefaring MMO EVE Online, revealed today that $40 million in external funding has been obtained. Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) led the round, with Makers Fund, BITKRAFT, Kingsway Capital, HASHED, Nexon, and other investors joining.
This funding will enable CCP Games to expand on the discoveries of its research and development team to enable the full-scale creation of a new AAA title set within the EVE Universe using blockchain technology.
This new initiative will use smart-contract blockchain technology, focused on persistence, composability, and completely open third-party development to build a new connection between virtual worlds and gamers.
This new title’s production is distinct from current and previously reported projects, including EVE Online, which is presently in its landmark 20th year.
