One of the world’s largest game publishing giants, Nexon has entered into a joint venture with layer-2 scaling solution Polygon to develop the Non-fungible token (NFT) game – Maplestory Universe.
Maplestory Universe is featured as a web3 game based on the popular pixelated 2D, free-to-play online game called Maplestory, launched in 2003.
Nexon revealed amid the Game Developer Conference on Tuesday in San Francisco that it has recently joined forces with Polygon to integrate blockchain technology into MapleStory Universe. This collaboration aims to enhance the game’s quality by utilizing non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the blockchain.
Nexon is focused on creating and releasing online games, including Maplestory Universe, an MMORPG that enables players to engage in a virtual world, finishing quests, and communicate with other players.
MapleStory is a popular online game of yesteryear, and its $4 billion revenue so far surprised the gaming industry. Around 180 million users are connected with the game so far.
Nexon is looking to bring the MapleStory Universe franchise to Web3 Gaming. The MMORPG is being developed using SuperNet on the Polygon network to power the blockchain ecosystem.
As a result, gamers can experience the next level by creating favorite characters battling monsters among many gamers in the virtual environment. Additionally, players can also win NFTs after completing quests and monster hunting.
Hwang Sun-young, the head of Maplestory Universe, emphasized that “we are looking forward to expanding the NFT ecosystem Envisioned by Maplestory Universe by building on Polygon.”
