The attacker behind the largest 2023 DeFi attack on Euler Finance has given back the majority of stolen funds to protocol. According to the on-chain data, the hacker transferred 51,000 ETH to the Euler deployer contract on March 25. After some hours, the attacker processed the second transfer of 7,737 ETH.
The accumulative worth of both major transactions is approximately around $101 million as per the current ETH market value. However, the attacker has also transferred dai stablecoins worth millions to another wallet.
Before this, the hacker returned 3,000 ETH worth nearly $5.4 million on March 18.
On March 13, Euler suffered a flash loan attack that allowed an attacker to steal nearly $197 million worth of tokens including Dai, USDC, stETH, and wBTC, placing it one of the largest flash loan attacks in DeFi history.
Euler Finance immediately offered $20M in return for all stolen funds, but, the offer failed to please the attacker. However, he showed good gestures by returning 100 ETH to the affected user after he requested the attacker to return “life savings”.
Euler Finance also announced a $1 million bounty for providing information regarding the attacker.
On the final warning, The Euler Finance exploiter finally broke the silence by communicating on-chain. He said, “We want to make this easy on all those affected. No intention of keeping what is not ours. Setting up secure communication. Let us come to an agreement.”
