Argentinian low-cost airline Flybondi launches NFT tickets in collaboration with NFT ticketing company TravelX’s “NFTicket” technology built on the Algorand blockchain.
According to the announcement, “NFTickets enable secure, flexible, and efficient ticket distribution, reducing customer service costs and increasing revenue for airlines as they collect a percentage of NFTicket sales on the secondary market.”
With NFTickets, travelers can now manage their tickets to suit their needs. They can also now simply trade, change their name, transfer to another traveler, or resell their NFTickets giving them a multidimensional experience.
Currently, there are over 60 airlines worldwide in conversations with TravelX to explore the adoption of its NFTicket technology.
Mauricio Sana, CEO of Flybondi, stated: “Flybondi’s Ticket 3.0, powered by TravelX’s NFTicket technology, demonstrates our commitment to innovation and providing our customers with the best possible experience. We’re excited to be at the forefront of this change in the travel industry.”
Users can purchase flight tickets on the Flybondi website using fiat currency, and TravelX then generates an additional synchronized NFT ticket on top of the regular e-ticket.
Finally, by setting up a Ticket 3.0 account on Flybondi, travelers can manage and store their NFTs.
The announcement states: “The adoption of NFTicket technology represents a significant milestone for the airline industry, with TravelX leading the charge in driving this transformative change.”
The crypto industry and airline sector are currently exploring new opportunities to combine their use cases. Last October, Binance partnered with Crypto Air Tickets to allow users to book flight tickets using crypto via Binance Pay.
