The popular file-sharing platform in the 2000s, Limewire, now rebranded as an NFT marketplace, announced a new music-downloading game themed on the Microsoft Windows XP OS “recreating the early 2000s in a captivating and enjoyable way.”
The new LimeWire retro game emulates an outdated version of Windows and runs the platform on it. To play, interested users must provide their email addresses, and players “search” and “download” old music and movies.
The players then have to decide which items to “download.” No matter what kind of download it is, if it doesn’t have a “virus,” the player will receive 10 points. The LimeWire simulation lasts until the user encounters a “virus” or the timer expires.
The top players are promised crypto awards in the form of LimeWire’s LMWR tokens, which will be on sale later this month. The LimeWire game will be accessible to users until May 15, 2023.
According to LimeWire, the top 1,000 players would each receive “merch packages” and a total of 150,000 LMWR, which will be allocated hierarchically between them.
LimeWire Co-CEO Julian Zehetmayr stated: “Our approach in tapping into nostalgia to promote the new LimeWire was a conscious decision to acknowledge and celebrate our roots.”
