Global crypto exchange KuCoin’s Twitter handle got compromised for about 45 minutes from 00:00 Apr 24 (UTC+2), as confirmed by the platform.
KuCoin stated that only its Twitter account was the target of the attackers with the exchange restoring its account with the help of the Twitter support team.
The exchange discovered 22 transactions with the loss of a combined value of 22,628 USDT that were connected to the hack up until 02:00 on April 24 (UTC+2). KuCoin stated it will reimburse the affected users.
KuCoin is investigating the hack with the Twitter team and blocking suspicious addresses to stop further user impact. Along with that, the exchange reassured users it will put extra security measures in place to strengthen the defense of its social media accounts in addition to Twitter’s current 2FA.
It is not uncommon for cryptocurrency scammers to target the Twitter accounts of prominent personalities or crypto firms. Last month, the Twitter account of an Indian state governor was hacked and used to promote fake XRP airdrop. Sadly, this is just one of many similar incidents of hacking..
