The notorious football league, English Premier League (EPL) has filed new trademark applications for its Summer Series name and logo related to non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and cryptocurrency.
The application was submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office on April 19, 2023.
The trademark filing also made clear that the English Premier League is planning to jump on the NFT and virtual collectible trend by launching the NFT marketplace, reflecting excitement about digital assets in the major clubs.
The English Premier League is the top tier of the English football league system, which is contested by 20 teams including Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and others.
Two applications have been submitted for the “Premier League Summer Series” and “Summer Series,” which include the following goods and services.
- digital assets like cryptocurrency, NFTs, digital wallets, and software for transacting on the blockchain
- Clothing: for footwear; headgear; football boots; sportswear; football shirts; replica football kit.
- Providing an online marketplace for buyers and sellers of crypto collectibles; providing an online marketplace for buyers and sellers of blockchain-based non-fungible assets.
