The leading US-based sports publication, Sports Illustrated, has launched an NFT ticketing platform called Box Office. The platform is based on the Polygon network, an Ethereum scaling tool offering fast and cheap transactions.
The platform was built in partnership with ConsenSys, a Web 3.0 company that developed the popular crypto wallet MetaMask.
Box Office allows event managers, promoters and other entities to create and sell tickets for their own free or paid live sporting events on the SI Tickets website.
The platform also offers a unique feature called Super Ticket, a collectible ticket that gives holders access to exclusive benefits and content before, during and after the events.
For example, Super Ticket holders can enter the venue early, get discounts on drinks, and watch video highlights after the event.
According to SI Tickets CEO David Lane, Box Office is part of the sports publication’s mission to disrupt the ticketing industry and provide a better experience for fans and event hosts.
He also said that NFTs are a natural fit for ticketing, as they can provide verifiable ownership, prevent fraud, and enable secondary markets.
