Currently, the memecoin trend is taking the crypto space by storm as newly launched memecoins like Pepecoin have soared significantly in a matter of time, benefiting both investors and creators. Like them, you can also become a rags-to-riches success story by creating your own memecoin and listing it on an exchange, just by watching a 30-second video.
A viral video by digital artist Johnny Shankman, known as whitelights.eth on Twitter, did exactly that and showed the world how he created a new token called “EASY_MONEY” in just 27 seconds, using a program called Contracts Wizard by OpenZeppelin.
Shankman then used Remix to compile the token’s smart contract and deploy it on the Ethereum test net. The video gained more than 3 million views and was picked up by various large accounts on Crypto Twitter.
The popularity of Shankman’s video coincides with the rise of “shitcoins” in the crypto ecosystem. For example, a frog-themed token called Pepe, considered “entirely useless,” has seen its value surge more than 5,000% since its launch on April 14.
The video made by whitelights.eth soon turned into a competition, with user Diid creating their own meme coin in record time.
Diid on Twitter broke Shankman’s time, creating a new token in just 22.45 seconds. Shankman clarified that his video was for educational purposes only and that EASY_MONEY is not an actual token to be speculated on.
