The Ordinals hype has finally caught up with MicroStrategy’s Michael Saylor who is intrigued by its effect in the Bitcoin community. He revealed in an exclusive interview at Bitcoin 2023 that MicroStrategy is actively exploring Ordinals for potential software innovation.
Introduced in January, Ordinals has fueled experimentation with Bitcoin, allowing the creation of NFT-like assets. Not fully embraced by the Bitcoin community, it has seen notable developments such as Domo’s token-building framework. This has led to the proliferation of BRC-20 tokens in the crypto industry.
Saylor recently praised Ordinals as a catalyst for Bitcoin adoption. However, he recognizes that some people have used Ordinals for trivial purposes. He advocates for constructive criticism without resorting to censorship, promoting open dialogue and diverse perspectives.
Bitcoin’s increased transaction volume has led to higher fees, benefiting miners but posing challenges for regular users. Michael Saylor emphasizes the significance of discussing Ordinals for long-term mining success.
He believes leveraging Bitcoin’s functionality in application development can drive adoption. While specific use cases are undisclosed, Saylor recognizes the potential of storing non-transactional data on Bitcoin’s blockchain.
Saylor highlighted the need for stronger security in enterprises, suggesting cryptocurrency innovations can address this. He sees Ordinals as a catalyst for Bitcoin adoption, acknowledging some trivial uses.
