A prominent figure in the finance industry and a known skeptic of cryptocurrencies, Peter Schiff, recently become embroiled in a dubious episode on Twitter. Today, he found himself at the epicenter of a bold assault, as hackers specifically targeted him to propagate what seems to be a fraudulent scheme involving a purported $GOLD coin.
Spencer Schiff, the son of Peter Schiff, took it upon himself to warn his father’s followers about the potential danger posed by clicking on the link shared in the tweet. He firmly asserted that the link was “undoubtedly” compromised. Interestingly, in contrast to Peter’s perspective, Spencer holds an optimistic outlook on cryptocurrencies.
From Peter Schiff’s compromised account, the hacker took to Twitter to announce the grand debut of gold, a cryptocurrency token with the potential to revolutionize the Web3 community, bridging the realms of tangible and digital currency.
In a quote retweet, the hackers resurfaced a previous tweet from the same account that expressed disapproval of the US government’s decision to raise the debt limit, resulting in increased inflation within the country. It is worth noting that Peter Schiff is widely recognized as an advocate for gold and a vocal critic of cryptocurrencies.
Prior to this cyber intrusion, Peter Schiff appeared to have adopted a favorable stance towards the fundamental technology of Bitcoin. Despite being known for his scathing criticism of Bitcoin, he unexpectedly revealed his NFT collection on the Bitcoin Ordinals platform. This unexpected move took the cryptocurrency community by surprise. However, Schiff remains resolute in his belief that Bitcoin lacks intrinsic value.
In response to CZ’s tweet extending a welcome to Peter in the Bitcoin community, the economist responded, stating that he has not undergone a conversion. He clarified that the Ordinals platform contributes value to the artwork by simplifying the authentication process.
