In a stunning development, a handwritten letter written by Do Kwon, co-founder of the blockchain platform Terra, has unleashed a political firestorm in Montenegro.
According to a Balkan Insight report, the letter, addressed to outgoing Prime Minister Dritan Abazović and outgoing Justice Minister Marko Kovac, alleges a previously undisclosed connection between Kwon and former Finance Minister Milojko Spajić, who also heads Europe Now political party.
Prime Minister Abazović wasted no time in forwarding the letter to the Special State Prosecution Office, emphasizing the need for scrutiny.
The missive alleges that Kwon had financed Europe Now, prompting widespread demands from political parties, NGOs, and the public for a thorough investigation into these alleged ties.
The situation’s gravity has not escaped Prime Minister Abazović, who expressed concern over the potential consequences for Montenegro. He emphasized that the country cannot become a haven for global fraudsters, irrespective of the technological domain involved.
Spajić vehemently denied any connection with Kwon but admitted to knowing him as a friend since 2018 due to his company’s investment in the Terra project. The revelation surprised many, given Spajić’s previous advocacy for the crypto industry during his tenure as Finance Minister.
The unfolding controversy further amplifies as Montenegro grapples with the complexities of these unexpected associations and their potential implications. With demands for transparency growing, the investigation by the Special State Prosecution Office may reshape Montenegro’s future in ways unforeseen.
