Etherscan, the popular Ethereum blockchain explorer, has unveiled an innovative AI tool called “Code Reader,” powered by OpenAI’s advanced language model. The beta version of this tool aims to assist users in gaining a deeper understanding of the source code behind any smart contract.
With Code Reader, users can generate AI prompts for specific sections or functions of the code they wish to comprehend better. By asking targeted questions, the tool generates AI-generated explanations that allow users to delve into the intricate inner workings of the smart contract’s code.
Etherscan explained the value of Code Reader, particularly for those who interact with a smart contract for the first time. It provides comprehensive insights into the contract’s operations and functionality, empowering users to grasp its complexities more effectively.
The versatile use cases of Code Reader include obtaining a comprehensive list of smart contract functions associated with reading and writing Ethereum data. Moreover, the tool can facilitate code exploration to seamlessly integrate smart contracts with decentralized applications.
Etherscan, however, added a disclaimer for users, stating that the AI service on their website requires an OpenAI API key with sufficient usage limits. Additionally, users are advised not to assume that all answers generated by the AI are correct. To begin utilizing Code Reader, users need to insert their API key, enter the contract address, select the source file to interact with, and then proceed to ask their questions.
On Twitter, Etherscan issued a cautionary reminder: “Don’t assume answers are correct! This is very much a Beta release – please let us know what you’d like us to add or improve!”
With the introduction of Code Reader, Etherscan aims to enhance the accessibility and understanding of smart contract code, empowering Ethereum developers and enthusiasts to navigate the complexities of the blockchain ecosystem more effectively.
