Gods Unchained, the popular Web3 trading card game developed by Immutable Games, has made a significant move by listing on the Epic Games Store. This means that the game is now available to Epic Games’ massive customer base of over 230 million PC gamers.Â
Gods Unchained stands out from other trading card games like Hearthstone or Magic: The Gathering Arena, as it utilizes nonfungible tokens (NFTs) on the Ethereum layer-2 network Immutable X to represent each card.
Daniel Paez, the executive producer of Gods Unchained, expressed excitement about the game’s launch on the Epic Games Store, emphasizing the enormous reach and new audience it will bring.
The listing on the Epic Games Store comes at a time when Web3 publishers are facing challenges from platforms like Steam, which has been unwelcoming to Web3 games and delisted games offering NFT perks.
To counter these challenges, former MetaMask team members launched Hyperplay, a rival distribution platform that provides access to Epic Games and GOG.com stores. According to the developer’s March “2022 Year in Review” post, over 230 million PC gamers utilize Epic Games to find new games to play.
Hyperplay aims to support Web3 titles and offer an alternative to platforms like Steam. The team recently raised $12 million to further develop and expand Hyperplay. This move highlights the growing adoption of NFTs and blockchain-based games within the gaming industry.
