On July 11, Steven Kinard, the Director of Bitcoin Mining Analytics at the Texas Blockchain Council (TBC), announced his intentions to seek the Republican nomination for Texas House District 70.
Having served as a representative for TBC for two years and with three years at BOK Financial under his belt, Kinard is now setting his sights on the Republican Party nomination for the Texas House District 70 seat in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Kinard shared his ambitions in a statement on Twitter: “I am stepping forward to represent Texas House District 70, driven by a commitment to safeguard Texas’ energy future, empower parents, provide tax relief, reform education, preserve digital freedom, and strategically invest in technology.”
Emphasizing his commitment to decentralization, Kinard said, “My principles are rooted in the belief that liberty thrives through decentralization”.
According to his campaign website, Kinard plans to“resist and stop any research” into the central bank digital currency (CBDC), a stand that has garnered support from fellow Republican lawmakers.
Kinard’s clear stance on crypto might pose a challenge for the Democratic party in the upcoming elections. Cameron Winklevoss, co-founder of Gemini, has also raised concerns that the Democratic Party’s stance on cryptocurrencies may alienate influential young voters.
