The luxury fashion powerhouse, Gucci, has embarked on an unprecedented collaboration with the world’s oldest auction house, Christie’s, to present a groundbreaking NFT collection titled “Future Frequencies: Explorations in Generative Art and Fashion.”
This extraordinary sale showcases the talent of leading digital artists who utilize artificial intelligence (AI) and generative techniques to create captivating interpretations of classic Gucci design elements.
The auction will take place from July 18 to 25 on Christie’s 3.0, the fully on-chain auction platform launched in 2022. In addition to Christie’s platform, the artworks will be showcased on Gucci Art Space, the fashion brand’s exclusive online gallery.
Featuring 21 unique artwork NFTs, the collection offers vibrant and innovative takes on Gucci’s iconic fashion motifs. Artists such as Claire Silver, Emi Kusano, Emily Xie, Zach Lieberman, William Mayan, Helena Sarin, Iskra Velitchkova, and the digital fashion house DRAUP in collaboration with Nicholas Sassoon contribute visionary works that challenge traditional notions of technology’s role in advancing human creativity.
The participating artists draw significant inspiration from the fashion industry’s design and production processes, harnessing algorithms and data to push the boundaries of creativity across various fields. Each artwork seamlessly integrates digital and physical elements, offering viewers an immersive experience.
Among the standout pieces is “Shinjitai” by Claire Silver and Emi Kusano, a digitally hand-sculpted artwork crafted using AI. This piece beautifully combines advanced mathematics with the aesthetic qualities of ancient paintings and tapestries, paying homage to both the era of AI and cultural heritage.
The buyer of this lot will receive the raw 3D file, enabling the possibility of 3D printing and customization, alongside a physical roll of fabric featuring the artwork’s primary pattern.
Iskra Velitchkova’s contribution, “PostMachine: A Study of Ethos and Patterns,” employs a generative algorithm inspired by Gucci’s iconic Bamboo 1947 bag handle. This captivating piece showcases the handle motif in repeat, seamlessly integrating fashion and generative art.
Also, Gucci and MoonPay join Christie and announce the upcoming seventh edition of its prestigious Art+Tech Summit. This highly anticipated event is scheduled to take place on July 19 and July 20, 2023, at the iconic Rockefeller Center in the heart of New York City.
This collaboration between Christie’s and Gucci marks a significant milestone in the fashion industry’s embrace of the metaverse.
