On July 15, Zhejiang province in China established a metaverse industrial association, marking its entry into the metaverse industry, according to a local news report.
This move follows the establishment of a similar group in Beijing and reflects the increasing competition among regional governments in China to capitalize on the metaverse.
The association, supervised by the provincial government, aims to foster the development of the metaverse industry, facilitate collaborations between businesses and governments, provide consultancy and training, and establish industry standards.
Founding members include subsidiaries of China Mobile and NetEase, and the association already has 91 member companies, with plans to expand to 200 within two years.
The major sectors identified by the association for metaverse adoption are healthcare, e-commerce, education, tourism, and entertainment.
The formation of this industry association highlights their dedication and proactive approach to exploring the potential of metaverse technologies and industries.
