Two leading crypto platforms, Tether and Bitfinex have emerged victorious in the legal victory as Chief Judge dismissed a class action lawsuit against the companies, highlighting the lack of legal merit in the plaintiffs’ claims.
Chief Judge Laura Taylor Swain of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District Of New York issued a comprehensive and incisive 6-page decision. It included an order dismissing the meritless class action lawsuit filed by Matthew Anderson and Shawn Dolifka against Tether and Bitfinex companies in its entirety.
The Court correctly held that the plaintiffs’ complaint lacked any “plausible allegations of injury” because it includes no facts showing that “USDT had a diminished actual value at all.”
The entirety of the class action complaint being dismissed at this very early stage of the proceedings punctuates the fact that plaintiffs’ claims were void of any legal merit.
The lawsuit in question was brought forth by Matthew Anderson and Shawn Dolifka against Tether and Bitfinex. The plaintiffs alleged that Tether’s widely-used stablecoin, USDT, lacked full backing by U.S. dollar reserves, leading to a diminished actual value of the stablecoin.
However, Chief Judge Laura Taylor Swain’s ruling dismissed these claims, citing a lack of substantial evidence supporting the plaintiffs’ allegations of injury.
In response to this legal victory, both Tether and Bitfinex have reaffirmed their dedication to their users and the broader cryptocurrency community. They expressed their commitment to continuing their operations transparently and in accordance with relevant regulations, aiming to foster confidence among their users and partners alike.
This victory is seen not only as a personal victory for the companies but also as a potential turning point for the stablecoin industry as a whole. As Tether’s USDT maintains a significant position in the cryptocurrency market, the ruling could potentially influence both regulatory discussions and investor sentiment surrounding stablecoins.
