An anonymous user with ENS name nd4.eth sent a transaction of 2500 ETH to a null address and essentially burned it all without any context.
The transaction occured on July 26, as per Etherescan, which has now gone viral within the crypto community. The address has burned all 2500 ETH which accounts to approximately $4.5 million.
It left the Ethereum community curious over the motive behind transferring the Ether. Some even jokingly applauded the person for reducing Ethereum supply.
An on-chain analyst twitter handle, Lookonchain observed that the user is a whale with 34,287 GMX and 311,003 GMS tokens on Arbitrum.
The burning refers to the process of sending crypto assets to an inaccessible address. This event removes transferred tokens permanently from supply.
