Recently, hackers targeted the social media account of Blockchain Capital, on platform X (Twitter), and used it to promote a token giveaway, attempting to entice users into falling for their scheme.
On August 9th, the incident unfolded as posts began appearing on Blockchain Capital’s X account. These posts deceitfully offered “BCAP” tokens, despite the fact that the venture capital company had no affiliation with such tokens.
These misleading posts guided users toward a copycat website that closely imitated the appearance of the actual VC firm’s site.
Nonetheless, Blockchain Capital swiftly reclaimed control of their official account on platform X. They promptly removed all the numerous posts that falsely promised a “BCAP” token giveaway.
To attract users, the copycat website guides them to link their cryptocurrency wallet, employing a familiar strategy utilized by phishing scammers. This approach is aimed at duping users into authorizing a malicious transaction that results in the depletion of their funds.
Furthermore, the scammers have craftily disabled the commenting feature on the post. This move seems designed to thwart others from raising warnings about the potential scam.
