The developer and founder of Ethereum, Vitalik recently shared a blogpost emphasizing his views on Twitter’s (now called ‘X’) Community Notes.
Vitalik describes it as ‘despite not being a crypto project’ but ‘might be the closest thing to an instantiation of crypto values’ in the form of a real-world application. He said that “Its [Community Notes] not perfect, but it’s surprisingly close to satisfying the ideal of credible neutrality.”
Community Notes is X’s new feature that addresses fact-checking against fake news and misinformation shared on the platform. The authorized users on X can add a community note on any post which requires contextual correction.
As a prominent persona in the emerging world of decentralization, Vitalik’s views are thoroughly notable on topics that boost mass-empowered applications such as X’s Community Notes.
This blogpost from Vitalik is cherished by numerous X users including its ex-CEO Elon Musk.
Vitalik also denoted the development of Community Notes’ rating Algorithm which is built with humongous efforts from developers. This algorithm prioritizes notes that receive positive ratings from people across a diverse range of perspectives rather than dividing critics on the basis of left and right side.
X’s Vice President of Product Keith Coleman outlined Vitalik’s post citing that Community Notes’ code and data is open source which can be seen and analyzed by anyone publicly just as Vitalik did in the blog.
It has noted that the community notes feature existed before Elon Musk took over Twitter and rebadged it as X. So who really deserves the credit for creating such an outstanding feature? Is it Parag Agarwal or Elon Musk, this is a debate for another time.
