The star footballer Ronaldinho Gaúcho can possibly be arrested as he fails to testify in an alleged crypto scam reported against his company 18kRonaldinho.
According to a report from Jornal O Globo, Ronaldinho avoided appearing before Brazil’s Congress and ignored a subpoena for second time on August 24th citing adverse weather conditions.
Congressman Aureo Riberio said that Ronaldinho will have another opportunity on August 31st to testify. In the event he fails to appear, the country’s law enforcement may take a legal stance against him.
The lawsuit has been filed against 18kRonaldinho, the venture firm of the soccer star, which allegedly promised its clients to provide 2% daily returns on crypto investments. However, the company has failed to deliver such returns in the pyramid scheme, and the lawsuit is now seeking over $61 million in damages.
While opposing the allegations, Ronaldinho’s legal team said that he was just an ambassador of the company and another victim of the scam executed by the venture.
The legal team claimed that Ronaldinho’s name and his pictures were used illegally to attract investors. Ronaldinho was also heavily criticized for allegedly promoting a memecoin World Cup Inu.
