After observing the rising number of crypto scams, the Himachal Pradesh government decided to form a special investigation team (SIT) with excellent police officers to control such frauds.
Indian crypto enthusiasts have lauded the move, as fraudsters are targeting the country by taking advantage of a lack of regulations.
According to a local news report, while discussing it in the assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri revealed that Northern Range DIG Abishek Dullar will lead the SIT.
Mukesh raised concern over the drastically rising number of crypto scams. He said, “To make a fast buck, people fall prey to allurements by fraudsters. Fiftysix complaints have been received in cyber police stations over the last two years. Six FIRs have been registered and five persons arrested, three in Himachal and two in Punjab.”
Furthermore, three cyber police stations had also been built in three different districts, including Shimla, Mandi, and Kangra.
Hoshyar Singh alleged a cryptocurrency fraud amounting to Rs 200 crore each in Kangra and Hamirpur districts. “As many as 425 persons are involved in the fraud and Rs 10 crore has been swindled in Dehra constituency alone. Poor are being lured with the promise of doubling their money in eight months,” he said
