Nitin Gupta, the CBDT chairperson, stated that since the introduction of a new TDS regime for online gaming and cryptocurrency trading, the government has collected more than ₹700 crore in tax till this fiscal.
According to him, since the new online gaming regime went into effect on April 1 of last year, about ₹600 crores in taxes (under the tax deduction at source head) have been collected during the current fiscal year, and approximately ₹105 crores through TDS have been collected during the 2023–24 fiscal year.
