According to a filing dated Thursday, the massive asset management company BlackRock (BLK) appears to have registered an iShares Ethereum Trust in the state of Delaware.
The registration doesn’t mean BlackRock has filed an application with the Securities and Exchange Commission to offer an ETH ETF. BlackRock’s spokesperson declined to comment on the announcement.
Ether (ETH), which had already increased throughout the day in tandem with a broader surge in cryptocurrency markets, surged even more in response to the news, rising around 7% to $2,030.
In June, BlackRock registered its iShares Bitcoin Trust seven days before submitting for its spot Bitcoin ETF registration. This was a similar strategy.
