The City of Lugano has upgraded its MyLugano payment application by integrating Polygon Proof of Stake (PoS). This integration marks a major step for the city, recognized as Europe’s emerging cryptocurrency and blockchain technology hub. With this update, MyLugano continues to serve as a local payment tool and grants its users access to the expansive array of decentralized applications available on the Polygon network.
The app now includes an asset section where users can manage a personal, multichain digital wallet, enhancing its utility for cryptocurrency users. This feature aligns with the city’s vision to incorporate cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Tether, and its stablecoin, LVGA, into everyday transactions. Integrating with Polygon PoS will support some of these transactions on its platform.
Innovative Features and NFT Initiatives
MyLugano is set to introduce a “Mint it Big” feature, allowing users to mint photographs on Polygon PoS. With this update, the app is launching a new NFT collection, LVGA/XY Flowers, in collaboration with artist Yuri Catania and Lugano Living Lab. This collection links a physical art installation at the Palazzo dei Congressi to digital NFTs on the Polygon network, bridging the gap between traditional and digital art forms.
These advancements represent Lugano’s commitment to becoming Europe’s blockchain capital. By integrating blockchain technology into its financial infrastructure, Lugano is setting a precedent for how cities can embrace digital currencies and blockchain technology to enhance the daily lives of their residents. Integrating Polygon PoS into the MyLugano app indicates the city’s dedication to innovation in the rapidly evolving Web3 and digital finance world.
