The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has revealed a new collaboration with the Algorand Foundation, an organization dedicated to advancing the world’s most advanced, secure, and reliable layer-1 blockchain. This partnership aims to establish a blockchain academy to equip UNDP staff with knowledge about the uses of blockchain technology.
The announcement took place at the Algorand Impact Summit in New Delhi, where Robert Psicko, UNDP’s expert in alternative finance and low-carbon development, made the announcement.
Scheduled to launch in 2024, the Algorand Blockchain Academy aims to enhance the capabilities of UNDP staff by providing education and training in blockchain technology and its practical applications for sustainable development.
The academy’s curriculum will include recorded lectures, interactive workshops, and hands-on assignments. This educational initiative will be accessible to all 22,000+ UNDP employees across more than 170 countries and territories, as well as staff members from other UN agencies.
The program aims to address specific areas, such as:
- Financial Inclusion: Investigating how blockchain can be utilized to provide financial services to communities that are often left out
- Supply Chain Transparency: Improving the clarity of supply chains to tackle problems like child labor and encourage responsible sourcing practices
- Tokenizing Real-world Assets: Making it possible for more people to become partial owners of assets, thus broadening investment opportunities
- Digital Identity: Creating secure and universally applicable digital identity solutions to promote inclusion in both social and financial aspects
The Algorand Foundation team, along with representatives from Algorand ecosystem projects like HesabPay, Wholechain, Koibanx, and Quantum Temple, will be part of the curriculum. The beta version of the program is set to begin in the first quarter of 2024 and will be gradually introduced throughout the year to benefit staff worldwide.
