The City of Lugano has embraced the future by allowing citizens and businesses to pay taxes and invoices with cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Tether.
In collaboration with Bitcoin Suisse, Lugano residents can now utilize a fully automated process to settle any local invoice using their preferred mobile wallet. This move is part of Lugano’s Plan B, a joint initiative with Tether, aiming to integrate blockchain and Bitcoin into the city’s financial system.
Bitcoin Suisse, supporting Lugano’s plan, facilitates the technical aspect of this integrated payment solution. By scanning the Swiss QR-Bill code on the invoice, citizens can easily pay with their chosen cryptocurrency.
Lugano joins the ranks of Swiss municipalities, including Zug and Zermatt, in recognizing cryptocurrencies as valid forms of payment for municipal services.
The adoption of Bitcoin aligns with Lugano’s commitment to modernizing its financial infrastructure and reflects a broader trend in Swiss cities embracing the use of digital currencies for everyday transactions.
