NFT toy startup, Pudgy Penguins has announced plans to enter the virtual gaming industry with a Webkinz-style experience called “Pudgy World.”
The company’s CEO, Luca Schnetzler revealed at Art Basel Miami 2023 that the interactive virtual world, launching in alpha mode before April 2024, will be available for Pudgy Penguin NFT holders to connect with their digital collectibles.
Schnetzler stated that Pudgy World will “revolutionize fandom” by enabling Pudgy Penguins “stans” to interact with their characters.
The Ethereum-based NFT collection featuring 8,888 cartoon penguins has become hugely popular since its 2021 launch, with current ownership split among 4,403 collectors. At a floor price around $27,000 worth of ETH, the rarity of Pudgy Penguins has attracted avid NFT enthusiasts.
Also, Pudgy Penguins recently celebrated over 10 billion GIF views on X, helping cement itself in internet culture.
After past company issues, its renewed management has facilitated immense growth — from strong digital collectible sales to plans for toy distribution across 2,000 Walmarts.
