In anticipation of the 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia, Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the global organization that oversees international soccer competitions, will introduce its nonfungible token (NFT) collection.
As stated in the December 11 announcement, a 100 NFT collection will launch on December 15 in partnership with the blockchain company Modex, offering the opportunity to win tickets to the FIFA World Cup 2026 final.
Furthermore, this month, 900 more digital collectibles featuring iconic moments from the ongoing tournament as well as digital replicas of memorabilia will be released on the Polygon network (MATIC) and OpenSea.
According to developers, “Scheduled to kick off in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on December 12, the FIFA Club World Cup brings together seven of the world’s greatest football teams. The champions of FIFA’s six confederations are all participating.”
FIFA+ Collect, the platform bearing FIFA’s name, will have the NFTs available. Algorand powers the NFT platform, which debuted in September 2022.
The FIFA+ Collect platform has enabled 11 NFT drops since its launch, resulting in the issuance of 909,255 digital collectibles and 16,448 holders. From that point on, the platform witnessed trading volume in both the primary and secondary NFT markets totaling $2.4 million.
Nevertheless, “Mint Volume can be misleading as FIFA+ Collect Info cannot distinguish the packs obtained for free in challenges from the packs purchased with USDC [USD Coin],” claims FIFA+ Collect Info.
